Site Hours

Our gates are open Monday through Sunday from 8:00am – 4:30pm.

The office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am – 4:30pm and Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

 

Rules & Safety

“Creating a space of reflection for all of our families”

For the protection of the interests of all visitors, these rules must be followed.

All dogs MUST be on a leash, and the person walking the dog must be holding onto the leash.  No exceptions.  Owners are required to pick up after their dogs.

The running path around the perimeter of the cemetery is for pedestrians only. ALL BIKES are prohibited from using the running path. Bikes may be locked to the bike racks located near the front gates and the stable. Locking or chaining bikes to trees, monuments, or fencing is prohibited.

The Vine Street Hill Cemetery is an active cemetery, with recent burials.  Gravestone rubbing is prohibited.  Headstone cleaning is to be performed by The Vine Street Hill staff only - no exceptions.

Please do not disturb trees, shrubs, and plantings, or pick flowers or foliage!

Tree-climbing, attaching any straps to trees, using hammocks, or slack-lining is strictly prohibited.

Please keep all tires off the grass.  When parking, please park alongside the curb, allowing for other vehicles to pass.  Avoid parking at a turn in the road, or in front of the bollards to maintain emergency vehicle access.

 

 

Decoration Policy

Vine Street Hill Cemetery reserves the right, without notice, to remove and dispose of any decorations which violate the rules or otherwise interferes with the safe ground operations of the Cemetery.

Items that may not be placed on the cemetery grounds include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Balloons any types secured to the grave site
  • Toys (e.g., pinwheels, stuffed animals)
  • Artificial birds or animals
  • Shells, rocks of any type
  • Glass beads
  • Crockery, bottles, jars, tin cans
  • Lawn decorations such as Shepherd Hooks, solar lights, and personalized ground cover blankets
  • Fencing of any type around graves
  • Candy or plates of food
  • Ceramic or concrete decorations or receptacles, including permanent plants or flowerpots
  • Vases – glass, wood, or ceramic
  • Wood, wire, or metal ornamental items
  • Plastic decorations and lawn ornaments
  • Photo Frames
  • Personal Memorabilia / Family Heirlooms
  • Articles of Clothing (e.g., hats, bandanas, t-shirts)

Please ask about your decorations if you are not sure before placing the item on a grave.

 

Projects are ongoing to maintain and improve our campus for all visitors. We ask that you respect areas that are cordoned off for your own safety. We aim to create a safe and welcoming space, while working to preserve and restore our historic buildings and terrain.
